Down below is one of my Injections of Inspirations, and reasons I train the way I train today, and also train my athletes the way I do at Improvement Warrior Athlete, discusses why some athletes have it and some athletes donât.
And what âITâ isâ toughness.
In particular mental toughness.
Toughness can be developed, but when kids grow up being coddled and always staying in their comfort zone then itâs going to be a lot harder to change them and instill that mental toughness.
The workouts we do are hard. But we implement as much a âfunâ atmosphere as possible to keep our athletes always striving to get better. The stronger you get, the more mental toughness a person achieves because they have to push beyond their limits to get stronger!
Just last night I had one of my 14 year old baseball players come in. His brother had woken him up at 400 am that morning so he was tired and I could tell he wasnât his usually self. Did he complain? No! He pushed through.
He set a couple of PRâs in pushups and pullups, but the majority of the exercises he fell short. But he gave 100%. Not complaining.
Thatâs mental toughness.
All kids need to be pushed and thatâs exactly what we do. Starting at age 8 and going up. If they donât learn the lessons of life before adulthood then they canât be as successful as they are going to want to be.
âYou donât get in life what you want, you get in life what you are.â
Teach your kids the lessons that they need to be successful in life. What are they becoming? What path are they on?
âAinât nobody gonna hit as hard as life. But it ainât about how hard you can hit, itâs about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward! Thatâs how winning is done!âÂ
