• Why Some Athletes Are NOT TOUGH?!?! – New Albany Athlete Training

    Down below is one of my Injections of Inspirations, and reasons I train the way I train today, and also train my athletes the way I do at Improvement Warrior Athlete, discusses why some athletes have it and some athletes don’t.

    And what ‘IT’ is— toughness.

    In particular mental toughness.

    Toughness can be developed, but when kids grow up being coddled and always staying in their comfort zone then it’s going to be a lot harder to change them and instill that mental toughness.

    The workouts we do are hard. But we implement as much a ‘fun’ atmosphere as possible to keep our athletes always striving to get better. The stronger you get, the more mental toughness a person achieves because they have to push beyond their limits to get stronger!

    Just last night I had one of my 14 year old baseball players come in. His brother had woken him up at 400 am that morning so he was tired and I could tell he wasn’t his usually self. Did he complain? No! He pushed through.

    He set a couple of PR’s in pushups and pullups, but the majority of the exercises he fell short. But he gave 100%. Not complaining.

    That’s mental toughness.

    All kids need to be pushed and that’s exactly what we do. Starting at age 8 and going up. If they don’t learn the lessons of life before adulthood then they can’t be as successful as they are going to want to be.
