Holistic Methods to Boost Health and Wellness

For many of us, health and wellness seem like some far-off dream that can’t be obtained. It could be that we don’t have the time to spend an hour at the gym every morning, we don’t want to give up all the foods we love, or any number of other reasons. However, you don’t have to drastically transform your entire lifestyle to take care of yourself. Below are several holistic methods to improve your overall health and well-being.

    Foster Your Gut Health

We’ll start with a topic that has been getting a lot of attention lately: gut health. Your gut microbiome contains trillions of microscopic organisms (e.g., bacteria, fungi, viruses). Having the correct balance of beneficial and harmful microbes is essential to your gut health, and your gut health can have an impact on a variety of things — from digestion to immune system management to emotional health. Also, when your microbiome is healthy, it can help keep inflammation levels down. So, if possible, consider adding probiotics and prebiotics to your routine to support your microbiome. Probiotics can help crowd out harmful microbes, while prebiotics can selectively feed the beneficial microbes.

    Meditate Daily

Another way to improve your overall health and well-being is to start meditating each day. There are many different forms of meditation, but all of them can yield benefits:

    • Reduced stress and anxiety

    • Increased self-awareness

    • Boosted self-esteem

    • Longer attention span and stronger memory

    • Lower blood pressure

    • Improved sleep

One of the best parts about meditation is that you can do it from pretty much anywhere with no specialized equipment. Many people find it helpful to create a space at home for meditation.

    Maintain A Routine

Whether your daily schedule includes meditation, exercise, or simply working out, make sure to keep this intact all the time. While there is nothing inherently wrong with missing the occasional day, staying on track is paramount to your health. And being away from home doesn’t mean your routine has to stop. If you travel often, plan ahead by taking resistance bands in your suitcase. You can also take your fitness channels, workout music, and exercise tutorials with you if you pack a streaming device that’s compatible with most TVs. Finding ways to stick with your routine can pay off with a little extra diligence.

    Drink Green Tea

Fruit and vegetable juice is not the only liquid that packs a punch where your health is concerned. Green tea, according to Cooking Light contributor Jamie Vespa, MS, RD, contains a host of antioxidants. These are good for your heart and may even increase your resistance to certain types of cancer. There’s also a ton of evidence to suggest green tea’s polyphenols can help keep the effects of age from showing through on your skin.

    Visit the Chiropractor

If you’ve never tried chiropractic care, it’s worth trying at least once or twice. A chiropractic adjustment, in short, aims to manipulate the spine, which, in turn, can impact other parts of your body. Proponents tout it for relieving a wide range of health problems, from back pain and headaches to fibromyalgia and asthma. And the best part: It’s completely holistic. Going to the chiropractor may not fix every problem, but if it works for you, it could save you from persistent pain and big medical bills — all without the use of prescription medications.

Caring for yourself doesn’t have to mean changing everything about your life. Remember to consider probiotics and prebiotics that can promote gut health, and find a form of meditation that works best for you. Also, explore juicing, aromatherapy, and chiropractic care as holistic methods to boost your health and well-being. Adding practices like these to your routine can not only increase your chances of a long life, they can transform the way you feel from day to day.
